Ready Set Write - Week 8

Ready Set Write is a summer writing intensive that provides an opportunity for us to cheer each other on wherever we’re at in our writing—planning, drafting, or revising. This year, your RSW hosts are Alison MillerKaty UppermanErin FunkElodie Nowodazkij, and Jaime MorrowJoin us by posting your updated goals on your blog, and linking up with the widget on any of the hosts' blogs posted every Monday morning.

1. How I did on last week’s goals:
  • Write 5K words. I'm super excited to start my new summer project! √ I wrote >7K.
  • Hit the gym 4x. HAHAHA--turns away embarrassed.
  • Attend 2 yoga classes. Only one, but it was my favorite class on Sunday night.
  • Read Sarah Dessen's Saint Anything (I started over the weekend and it's sooo good). √ Plus I crushed two other books!

2. My goal(s) for this week:
  • I want to keep the words a-flowing, so I'll aim for another 5-7K.
  • Hit the gym 3x (that seems to be my sweet spot).
  • Read 1 book--The Poisonwood Bible is on deck.

3. A favorite line from my story OR one word/phrase that sums up what I wrote/revised: Right now I'm just outlining and drafting, but I can tell you that so far, this story is...

4. The biggest challenge I faced this week: Balancing other things--like friends and family and my gym schedule. I'm going to focus on evening it back out this week and setting more designated chunks of time aside to write.

5. Something I love about my WiP: that it's super weird and crazy and fun.

  1. I'm finding balance to be tricky lately, too. I love having my kiddo home for summer, but my work time is taking a major hit. Well done on your goals this week, especially writing and reading -- you rocked it! Have an awesome week, Valerie!

  3. Ugh. Balance. That is hard to find. Love your 'upgrade' pic! And YAY to getting all those words done.

  4. Balance is always the goal, I think. Even on really great weeks, it's still a constant struggle. Good luck this week!

  5. Super weird is awesome! Your book sounds like it's gonna be a good one. Also, any time at the gym/working out is better than nothing so, there's that! Good luck with your goals this week :)

  6. I'm so bad with balance that if I was a tightrope walker, people would be scraping me off the floor with a shovel by now lol. Regardless of how hectic your week was, it's awesome to hear that you got 7k down on your new WIP. Totally impressive! Hope next week is just as productive!

  7. Balance is a hard thing to achieve. And getting to the gym four times in a week... wow! If you pull it off, will you please share your secret? I wish I could find that kind of time. Here's to three awesome workouts!

  8. I've never actually finished the Poisonwood Bible but I've read parts of it several times since a writing class I took used it as a reference. I love the author's writing.

    Here's my belated RSW post

  9. I try to aim for a blend rather than a balance - for me, it's easier to keep shifting the blending of things than to keep trying to catch my balance....
Still, sounds like you've done well on everything, and the WIP sounds like a weird fun blast to write, so there's that....
