What's Up, my Wednesday people!
What I'm Reading
Just finished The Dream Thieves, and, oh my gosh, it was so good! I really do love the characters in this series and I'm picking up on some things in Maggie's writing style that I just really love. And ugh, Adam. Just Adam. <3
Each of the boys have been so well rounded out in this book, and have such heart breaking stories. I can't really talk about any of it without spoiling, but if anyone wants to have a gush session, especially after September 17th, EMAIL ME!
What I'm Writing
Story Stare: when someone is talking to you, but you are totally not paying attention because you had a random thought about your WIP and your gaze drifts right up over their left shoulder.
I have it. BAD.
(Sorry everyone who tried to tell me something important this week!)
What Else I've Been Up To
What Inspires Me Right Now
Know what I realized this week? I have to get out more. I've been spending way too many weekends cooped up inside. So this weekend I started going out for more runs (and when I mean runs, we know I mean I jog for a while. Then walk. Then jog. Because athletics and I do not really like each other). Anyway! The point is the minute I got outside, I felt like I shook loose a bunch of thoughts I had rattling around in my head. Plus, air smells better out here. So there's that.
Argh I really can't wait to read The Dream Thieves! I have to wait until the 20th too, since I can't afford it until then!
ReplyDeleteI need to get out more, I spend too much time indoors.
It's soooo good, Laura! Let me know once you have it :)
DeleteI think I'm the only person who was bored by Dream Thieves (ARC) and quit 200pgs in. I really need to get back into it bc my GoodReads am-reading is a little lackluster. LOL. Good luck with your jogging and writing, Valerie!! I now spend too much time indoors thanks to a new job :-) but I am trying to walk my 3-4 miles on the weekends to make up for it....
ReplyDeleteOh! I didn't know you had a new job! Good luck!
DeleteI'm with you on loving THE DREAM THIEVES -- the boys are so incredibly well-drawn. I'm a Gansey girl through-and-through. Perhaps we can double date. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the new term you've coined. I've had a bad case of the Story Stares lately too. I'm sure my friends think I'm losing my mind!
Double date is on, Katy!
DeleteI enjoy your "Agents Like Us" series, Valerie. Should the next agent be a surprise? Announcing each week who's up next week is one way to make sure people keep coming back. It indicates that the series is still happening, and next week's agent might just happen to be one that someone is planning to query. That's my two-cents for what it's worth.
ReplyDeleteAs for "Story Stares"--I get this when, in the midst of a conversation, someone says something that triggers a chain of thoughts in my head that ends up in a Shiny New Idea. I really struggle to keep paying attention and not start working on the SNI in my head. :)
Have a great reading/writing week!! :D
Hey Colin!
DeleteI think I'm going to announce at the bottom of the post who's on deck for next week--and also tweet about who the next agent will be.
Good luck on your SNI! Don't Story Stare while driving :)
I hear you on the getting out of the house and getting some exercise thing. And your jog/walk combo? Sounds like what I do when I actually exercise. ;-) Happy to hear that your story is still making you stare off into space and think about it. That's love for sure.
ReplyDeleteLove the new term! I get Story Stare a lot - my husband just calls it the zone. :) And I CANNOT WAIT FOR SEPTEMBER 17!!! I am buying THE DREAM THIEVES and reading all day.
ReplyDeleteStory stare! I love it and I definitely have it!
ReplyDeleteI am just counting down till I get a copy of The Dream Thieves, I can't wait! I adore those boys and Blue.
Oooh, pretty flowers!
ReplyDeleteStory Stare is such a perfect description. I know exactly what you mean ^_^
yup, have definitely experienced the story stare! and so jealous you're reading Dream Thieves!
ReplyDeleteI'm almost halfway through THE DREAM THIEVES right now, and I'm savoring every last word. Our local independent bookstore gave me an ARC of it this past weekend, which pretty much made my year! I'm SO glad you love Adam's character. He breaks my heart almost every time he's on the page. Usually everyone seems to drool over Ronan, which I get, but Adam is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI love that you coined the term "Story Stare." My thoughts drift far too often when I should be paying attention to other things, and now I know what to call it when that happens, like a hundred times a day! :)
Oh gosh, I love the term Story Stare. I do that all the time!
ReplyDeleteI really need to read read The Raven Boys and The Dream Thieves. I keep hearing they're so good.
Totally feel you on the needing fresh air thing. I decided to go for a walk earlier and I definitely felt less sluggish after that!
ReplyDeleteI think I have the Story Stare too. I do that often. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI definitely have the story stare. And I am beyond jealous of you for getting to read The Dream Thieves before it's out. I have mine preordered and I can't wait!
