I'm so excited to jump in this time around. Every summer I find out about this writing group in the final weeks and miss out on all the fun.
So--down to brass tax. I'm starting a new project: a YA contemporary that is very summerish and thrillerish (that's all I'm sure about for now). I want to take advantage of the summer vibes and capture a really cool beach setting. I'm thinking I want to write >3-5K a week--which means I should have a pretty good first draft by the end of the summer. As back up, I've made a mood board with a lot of cool pictures (like this one).
So that's what I'm working on. I'm super excited to hear about everyone's projects and cheerlead. I write mostly at night and on weekends so if you're ever looking for a writing sprint partner, hit me up on Twitter (@ValerieColeYA).
Want to join in? Here are the headings we'll be using every week.
1. How I did on last week’s goals
2. My goal(s) for this week
3. A favorite line from my story OR one word/phrase that sums up what I wrote/revised
4. The biggest challenge I faced this week (ex. finding time to write)
5. Something I love about my WiP
I'm so glad you're joining us this summer, Valerie! Best of luck with your drafting. I'm going to be drafting for RSW too, and I kind of hate it (I'm a much better reviser!). I'll be cheering you on as we trudge through our first drafts. :-)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the first draft, I find that the hardest but of writing, but it's exciting too discovering your characters and their world. I love the photo, I've never made a mood board I might try it out.
ReplyDeleteI love summer settings! Both my stories also take place during the summer and I'm hoping actually being in that season will help set the writing mood.
ReplyDeleteSummer stories are great! Good luck on your goals this week.
ReplyDeleteA story with a cool beach setting sounds perfect! I'm always motivated to work on summer-set contemporaries this time of year. So glad you're joining us, Valerie! :D
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the mood board, is it a physical one or a Pinterest-type one? Love the picture as well, makes me want to listen to warm songs--do you have any particular music lined up for your theme as well? :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your goals this week!
A beachy, thriller sounds awesome. Good luck with your draft!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your summer goal! I've always loved writing books and chapters set over summer vacation.
ReplyDeleteI saw you first on the list and now I have to join! :) I did this last year and the spring writing bootcamps a few times. SO HELPFUL. Specific goals help me so much.
ReplyDeleteAlso: squee for new project! I highly recommend a Piinterest inspiration board (so long as you don't get too sucked in timewise). I did 2 recent ones and the pics helped me shape some missing scenes.
I'm also embarking on a brand new shiny project! This is perfect timing.
I missed the part where you said you already made a mood board. You're always on top of those things :)
DeleteLove the visuals. For sure take advantage of the summer weather and get more inspiration! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteNew ideas are always fun! Best of luck this summer. :)
ReplyDeleteSummery, beachy, and a thriller? Sounds like the potential for a lot of sunburns.... as we sit out on the beach and read, read, read.
ReplyDeleteI love beach settings and your project sounds AWESOME. :) So glad you could join us this summer! Good luck this week!
ReplyDeleteHope those summer vibes give you lots of inspiration for your WIP! Glad you decided to join us for RSW!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, a summer beach thriller sounds FULL of win. Thrillers are so ... well, *thrilling* I'm knee deep in editing my YA sci-fi and in my spare time is an MG contemp retelling, but next I would love to write a thriller!
ReplyDeletesidenote: do you use Pinterest for you ridea boards, or some other platform?
Best of luck! Can't wait to hear about progress on this.
3-5k a week is the perfect goal! Not too overwhelming, but it adds up quick! Hope you're able to stick to it! Looking forward to hearing more about your beach book. =)
ReplyDeleteI love summer settings! Especially this time of year. Good luck with your drafting!
